Hot Tub Jets: Why More May Not Equal Better

If you’ve been shopping for a hot tub, you’ve seen that there are many different options out there. It can start to seem like an overwhelming decision, especially when you aren’t sure which one is the best for you.

Many people tend to use the number of jets as a measure on their personal ‘good, better, and best’ scale. But, you shouldn’t compare hot tubs based solely on their number of jets. From the pump to the location of the jets, there are a number of factors that play a role in your hydrotherapy.

Are more jets better than fewer jets?

Not necessarily. A hot tub with 30 jets may look nice, but a seat with 3 jets across your shoulder blades and 2 sweeping up & down your back is going to offer a much more effective massage than just 30 stationary jets.

Since there is a finite amount of water coming out of the jet pump, every jet you add reduces the amount of water available to other jets – in turn reducing their power. With a large number of jets, you are likely to get very little pressure from each jet. But, if you have a fewer number of well-placed jets, you will get much more pressure and a better massage.

If your purpose for buying a hot tub is for hydrotherapy for your muscles or joints, you’ll want to purchase a hot tub with jets strategically placed to address your problem areas.

There are many types of hot tub jets. There are larger jets with multiple nozzles, rotating jets, directional jets, and more.

Different hot tubs have different seating & jet placement options. For example, lounge seating targets your calves and leg muscles. Consider how you’ll be using your spa and the benefits you want to see from it. Then, look at the type and placement of the jets to see which model will best fit you.
